No Win Situation

Islam knows no borders.

Under Obama’s current rules of engagement, there is no way we can win in Afghanistan, and even if we could, what does winning mean? What do we expect to gain? I understand Obama is, after an almost four month decision making process, going to send 35 thousand additional troops in. What will that accomplish? Nothing. We could send 3.5 million troops in, and still not be successful. We could nuke ‘em, but what would be the gain?

Many people have tried to conquer Afghanistan over the centuries…nobody was successful. In recent times, the British tried three times, beginning in 1838, and failed each time. The British and the Russians both wanted to control access to the northern approaches to India…that was before we could fly. The Russians hit ‘em pretty hard beginning in 1979 and it lasted for about ten years. Even though the USSR had superior weapons and complete air control, the Afghan people successfully eluded them, and the Russians broke for cover. The Afghan people never gave up. Near the end of the “so called” Russian occupation, Russia had 100,000 troops in Afghanistan, and they still couldn’t “win”. The Afghan people sent the Russians running home with their tails between their legs. U.S. Stinger missiles and technology provided to the Afghan resistance did help, but was probably not a deciding factor in routing the USSR. The fact is, the Afghans will fight to the end. They always have, and always will…regardless if they are Islamofascists or not…they know nothing else. They are what I would call a “formidable opponent” . They will never surrender. They adapt, period. I’m all about freedom…I’m all about winning…but I think we should replace all of our politicians…both Democrats and Republicans. As someone said…”the times they are a changing”.

So, my question is: “Why keep sending our young men and women into harms way, if our government will not let us win?”

The elected people running this country are some Bad Bad Juju. We need some Change.

I agree… Lets send a shitload of John Deere’s, Massey Furgusons, and a tanker full of corn liquor over there and say, hey, WTF, grow your poppies bitches… With that kind of equipment and fuel, maybe they’ll off themselves…. What they don’t realize is our present government, such as it is, will pay for stupid, so if we all get hooked on their dope and keep funneling money their way, riddle me this, why would they quit fighting? Hell, maybe they know our government better than we do. Imagine that.

…. the fundamental difference is that we are not there to “conquer” them…… we are there to save them from destruction….. either by our own powers, Or by the totalitarian powers that have “ruled” them for the past twenty years…… and that sets us apart from the Brits and the Russians……. and the Persians…… Mongols…… and, etc…… WE have different goals than any of the other armies…….. we have chosen a different path…..

….. are the Afghans a staunch and noble people?….. sure…… but we are not there to dominate the Afghan people…… we are there to kill bad guys… and on one level or another, they can recognize who these “bad guys” are just as well as well can……

… in the end, you either believe that every human loves and wants freedom, or you don’t…….. that is the question that troubles our leaders, man….. both here AND in the military……..

…… what is best for humanity?…. slavery or freedom?……

….. it will be interesting to see how this pans out, sir…….. and dangerous for us all if we fail……
