We’re getting spanked pretty good. I woke up to about 8 inches of snow this morning…now, pure ice is falling…not sleet, but pure ice pellets. supposed to turn back to snow shortly, with an additional accumulation of 5 to 8 inches. Bring the snow on, but ease off the ice. At the latitude where I live, ice is some bad bad juju. I can handle the snow; I can even drive in it…no problem, but ice is another matter altogether. No one can drive on ice…I don’t care what anyone says. The bottom line is: Ice Storms = Loss of Power. Loss of Power = Not Good. No, I do not have a generator. The power is holding on, but it ain’t looking good. The last time it was out was for 7 days. Huge cold pain in the ass.
When these storms are forecast, I usually break for my friends crib on the coast…not this time…gonna have to ride it out. I know, I know, most people say a foot of snow is nothing, and I agree…but the ice is the problem, at least at this latitude. Snow and then ice, and then more snow = trees and branches snapped = downed power lines = miserable situation. I’ve got plenty of supplies, so I’m gonna ride this one out…read a book by candle light if need be.
