The socioeconomic posture of this country is far worse than I’ve ever seen before. Some people are confused, concerned, and worried about their future, while others take the wait and see attitude, and are more concerned about, for example, American Idol than the future of themselves and their children. It is disheartening to me, to say the least. It is amazing to me to see how little the majority of the population follows international and domestic issues. I guess people are too busy with their everyday comforts to pay attention. I’m not suggesting radical, but I believe everyone needs to know and understand their surroundings.
I know many people, all in the private sector, who’ve lost their jobs. Some are approaching, and some are already in dire straits. They’ve had to use their savings to survive, they’ve had to tap their IRA’s, they’ve had to do whatever is necessary to feed themselves and their children. Some are running out of cash, so to speak. It’s not their fault. My friends are responsible people, but, when the economy tanked, some got hit harder than others. I fear it will touch all of us sooner rather then later.
My friends who are in real estate are done. They don’t think they can recover, at least not in the foreseeable future.
My friends who sell stocks and bonds are in big trouble. They don’t think they can recover either.
My friends who held hi-tech jobs are done. Companies are not doing any development. They are laying off the talented moneymakers, and choosing to float the boat with junior level staff. Don’t change anything, just keep everything running, they believe.
All of these companies are in panic mode. They are fighting to survive.
My friend in advertising is done. In fact, his whole firm is done.
Another good friend is a DDS, and he believes the current administration will bankrupt health-care. He’s worried.
I know people from all walks of life, and they’re all worried, and I don’t blame ‘em. This current elected President and his administration care nothing about you, the people. They have another agenda. Do you think 0bama was a plant? Some people do, but I’m not a conspiracy theorist.
Many of my friends go to work everyday, thinking it will be their last. That is no way to live.
I know many people who are seriously formulating Plan B. Plan B involves many different “things.” They are giving it considerable consideration. You never know.
It doesn’t hurt to have a contingency plan. Just in case.
There are so many negative factors pushing against our cushy way of life…you need to think ahead, and be prepared for the worst. It could happen.
In the meantime, you must vote…vote your heart. If you don’t vote, you have no say.
As of now, the only way to change anything is to vote. It is the honest truth. That’s the way it works. Get in the game, or go home…if you have a home to go back to.
Right, Wrong, or Indifferent…sometimes you must choose a side…but choose you must, or you’re part of the problem. Fact.

As I think you know, I’m with you 0n the vote thing; but I have to ask a question. At what point do we say enough is enough?
In a personal confrontation it’s entirely up to the individual to decide when to ultimately pull the trigger if it’s deemed necessary. When do we collectively pull the trigger as a Nation?
Once we’re chained to the oars it’s a bit late to make a stand, yet violent rebellion against minor incursions such as seat belt laws, a hike in property taxes, or any number of other seemingly insignificant legislation might appear a little strong. Somewhere between the two extremes is the flash point.
I have my own line in the sand, but I’d be very interested to hear the thoughts of others.
The tipping point, IMHO, is when the ‘other side’ feels it.
They are just now beginning to realize that the promises are not being kept, and are growing dissatisfied.
When they wake up and see that their welfare checks are being eaten up by higher taxes and less services, when law enforcment is being reduced and they cannot escape crime, when they cannot afford electricity or gas they will take to the streets.
That will be the tipping point for us. It will start with martial law to control the riots and drag us into a protective posture.
Or we will have another Ruby Ridge or ten close to us and that may be the match.
We will not be better after November or 2012. We have slept too long.
Pray for your kids.
What Jon and Skip said. Very astute.
Of course we will vote. Can’t wait, crawl over broken glass, etc.
But in the meantime? Is there a tipping point? A ‘meantime’? I read a lot of American Revolutionary period stuff; online, I am following something called PatriotCast on Twitter and every day they post an update from the Am Rev War period (‘a day by day account of the war for 8 years’). It is SO startling — to me anyway — to read some of these updates. It just makes me think, “My God, we are such WEENIES now.” Anyway. Just venting-babbling a little here; sorry, feel free to delete.
Hard fucking times are here. The big reason America is in so much trouble, we do not make anything anymore. No jobs for everyone.
I agree with Catfish. We need to have industry and stop our goddamn dependence on almost everything from other countries. It’s like we sold our souls, and China owns the largest portion. My Plan B involves a lot of booze and crying.
Fuck that “vote your heart” bullshit. That’s what got us the idiots in charge today. We need more people to vote with their fucking brains.
Well, my heart is attached to my brain.
Fair enough. Alas, most people can’t seem to distinguish between their hearts’ desires and the cold reality before them.
Welcome to South Africa, where “stupid” has the most votes.
