I believe people should not be allowed to vote in a Presidential election unless they can pass a simple quiz. Hell, you have to pass a test to get a drivers license, or get a concealed carry permit. There are some ignorant people out there.
Please let me know in the comments any questions I should change or add.
1. Who is the current President of the United States, the Vice President, and which political party do they belong to?
2. Name the three branches of the U.S. government.
3. What is the Preamble to the United States Constitution?
4. What is the order of succession to the President of the United States, by office, and who currently holds these offices? First four only.
5. Who is your State Senator, Congressmen/women, and Governor, and which party are they members of?
6. What type of government is the United States of America?
a. Monarchy
b. Democracy
c. Republic
d. Dictatorship
e. Constitutional Republic
f. Theocracy
7. Who did we fight during the Revolutionary War?
8. Recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
9. What do the stars and stripes on the United States flag stand for?
10. How many Supreme Court Justices are there?
11. In which state is the U.S. Capital? (trick question)
12. What is significant about July, 4, 1776?
13. What are the qualifications to become the President of the United States of America?
I just did this off the top of my head, but I think we need to shrink it to ten, or grow it to twenty. I also believe people need to understand the basics of the first and second amendments.

I would also like to have them work a math problem, requiring using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, first wrong answer gets them another problem to solve, second wrong answer locks them out of that election.
Also a question to determine if they are net welfare recipients. If yes, then ask if they own any property, if yes, confiscate the property, sell it at public auction to reimburse welfare issuing agency.
I agree!!!
As do I.
I passed it on and tested it further
Yes you did indeed.
How about the test be given in english only. And on a side note,I just walk in to my county sheriff and ask for a gun permit, and with a back ground check it’s 15.00 dollars. And that’s all.
English only…I’m downtown with that. Where I live the test lasts ten hours, many questions about Laws, and you’re graded on if you can answer the questions, and how well you can place 100 rounds in critical mass from different distances. It is a State thing.
By these standards I would say about only 5% of the voting population will be permitted to vote.
If that, and these are LOW standards. But, people can talk about American Idol, and I can’t. I have no clue.
If only 5% can vote we might get a higher quality thief in the WH.
OR:
Maybe people ought to start taking responsibility for themselves. Get an education.
Prepare yourself for a paying job and then either get one or make yourself one. We’re gonna need a whole bunch more local small farmers when gas prices get so high that local stores are not able to have food trucked long distances. I’ve been one. It just takes a willingness to get out and work. And I have no problem speaking or understanding English, doing basic math……or, putting two center of mass and one to the head, or, vice versa if it comes to that.
I truly believe people should be tested for anything that requires important decisions.
What’s considered a passing grade? I hate to admit that I don’t know the answer to three of those questions. Or, I’m not sure if my answers would be correct. And, I consider myself pretty “up” on politics. I guess I’ll go study!! I’ve always said that you should have to pass a test to vote. I like yours!!
I don’t know. What would you drop or add? This is a work-in-progress.
I’m not sure I’d drop anything! I think they are very valid questions and we “should” know the answers.
Additions?
1. Who was the 1st President of the United States?
Believe it or not, I’ve met people that couldn’t answer that one.
2. Who was President during the Civil War?
This one may not be “necessary” but I also have heard many people that can’t answer it.
Maybe also a question (but I’m not sure how to word it) about the difference between Congress and the Senate. People don’t seem to know what they do and what “powers” they have (how they vote and for what).
What is the pass mark ? Is 9 out of 13 for a non-US citizen worth anything?
Not really…must be a U.S. Citizen to vote, but 9 out of 13 ain’t bad for someone from way out of town. I’ll bring you up to speed on the four you missed over some pints.
