Stretch and I did a mobile patrol today. Believe it or not, he likes riding in my car…it is a German car, so he feels some hereditary Juju, and rides well. We’re looking at this house down the street that has been on the market for three + years. When it was first listed, they wanted 850k…and then it went down and down and down and down. Now, they want “Make Offer”. At least, that’s what the sign says. I live in the ditch on the other side of the street…not in an 850k home. Anyway, we stopped to have a look-see, and Stretch did his business in the front yard. He is the man dog, and I think he was speaking (so to say) to a larger problem.
Bottom line: They can’t sell it, and need a submarine to escape. I might offer ‘em 10 bucks if I could sell it and walk away with 11 bucks. It’s that bad around here. Everyone wants to sell, and nobody wants to buy.
It’s whacked out to the max.

If all goes as planned, tomorrow, the kudzu wife and I will close on a small piece of acreage and 110 year of house. In placing homeowners insurance on it the estimated replacement cost for the house was near 300K. Purchase price below 100K. Two years ago you couldn’t even buy the 16 acres for that.
Now if only I can scrape enough to put up a line of bunkers, trenches and firing positions around it before the Zombie Hordes descend.
The KW got me a tee shirt for our anniversary yesterday. It read; “Got Ammo?”
I’d be stocking up on the bullets as well. I’d also be growing summer and winter gardens. Big gardens. I’d grow whatever I could grow all year long. As you know, when people are really desperate, they will take what they need at whatever the cost, and I’m not talking about a fist fight.
Anyway, I plant two gardens a year just because I like fresh vegetables, and I don’t mind the work…but it might become a necessity sooner rather than later. We live in troubled times. I have no idea what will happen, but I do know we’re moving backwards as a society. Having a place where you can be somewhat self-sufficient is a smart move. What will really happen when the bottom falls out?
Yeah, things are bad all over. Our home has depreciated only about 4%, so not as bad as other places. Hubby didn’t want to retire to this house, but it sure looks like we will.
Well, that’s not so bad…could you sell it?, that’s the question. If not, I’d dig in and make do. I don’t know about you, and I’m no expert, but I’d be looking at what might be around the corner (economically). The people I know who make a living predicting the future are really really worried. The fact is, the U.S. has more debt that it can pay off. Nothing really happens overnight, but sunset has set in.
I’m buying one that is a STEAL. On an oak-lined beautiful street with mansions all around. They sure are going to look at me strange whilst I’m walking my goat.
Steal that motherfucker while you can. Room for a vineyard? I hear goats are good at guarding grape bushes.
