Mother and Child

The Juju Woman snapped this photo (decent lens) of a Black Howler Monkey in the jungle near Lamani, Belize, Central America. If you look closely (her right), you can see she is carrying a child on her back. These things are LOUD. We heard them from about a mile away, followed the sound, and found about a hundred of ‘em in the trees. Very cool. They swing from branch to branch and tree to tree, effortlessly. Warning: when you get close, they’ll throw their own shit at you, and if you get under ‘em, they’ll piss on you.

This was the first time we’ve seen monkeys in the wild.

Great picture! I’ve never seen a monkey in the wild, either. Truthfully, most of ‘em kinda spook me. Especially chimps. Those things are just psychotically dangerous.

That they are. Monkeys are much stronger than most people think, even the small ones…and Howlers are not small.

I once had a friend that ran a sanctuary for primates rescued from pet owners or the entertainment industry.

I was there one evening when the Howlers started their evening chorus. It was loud, fantastic and I felt like I was in an exotic foreign land.

Loud is an understatement. They say they can be heard from five miles.

So, you met the local’s version of their Democrat party, eh?
