THE RAINING PORCH
One of the fondest memories of my childhood was “the raining porch.
It covered three sides of the house, and was deep enough so that you didn’t get wet in a driving thunderstorm. You could just watch the rain. There’s a big difference between watching it rain, and standing in it.
I think this is why I love storms, and am not distressed by inclement weather. Bring it on, and blame it on the porch.
Now, in all fairness, I did have to move from one side to the other occasionally, but that was just part of the game.
I remember eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the porch. I remember some of the best conversations, including arguments; I’ve ever had, on that porch. I remember shooting squirrels everything off that porch. I took naps on that porch, and I passed out on that porch. There was a lot of shit that happened on that porch, and most of it was good.
I remember the porch girls.
Anyway, there’s nothing like standing in the rain without getting wet.

I grew up with a porch like that...there was also a tin roof on a shed near by. I loved to sit on the porch in my grandfather's rocking chair and watch it rain, smell the rain, and listen to the drops hit the tin roof...good memories.

Yes, I am envious of the porch I posted. It isn't mine. It's my mom's.
Always had one growing up as well... miss it.
