$10,000 Bill (Note)
My friend has one of these. It is legal tender and is redeemable for face value at any bank. He carries it rolled tight in his money clip. Just is case. Fucking crazy if you ask me. He says, "you never know when you might need ten grand in cash...Immediately." He does have a point, but it is probably worth twice face value. They were only printed in 1928 and 1934.
That would be Salmon Chase (Treasury Secretary under Lincoln) on the note.
All High Denomination notes that are turned into banks are forwarded to the Federal Reserve and destroyed.

If that's real, it could be worth well over twice the face value. Recently a $1000 bill sold at auction for over $2,000,000. It might be worth looking into!

Tell your buddy that it is worth at least $75,000.00 & is most likely worth more. He should have kept it flat in a sleeve but my guess is your buddy ain't hurtin' for the green stuff.
