I’m (unseen) on the leeward (port) side fighting the foresail. I was trimming that day. I can tell you, I was getting wet…soaking damn wet…almost knocked off the boat wet, and I was wearing a harness. This was a fast and powerful boat, and she would take everything out of you. As you can see, we had some “meat” on the high side, but not enough. She would take you all the way to your limits. Masthead rig, as opposed to Fractional. All said and done, we had ten of us on her, and we couldn’t tame her. When we popped the chute downwind, it was all about hanging on and watching everything. It was a small boat, a Wavelength 30, but she had a temper. I’m telling you, it took at least ten people to calm her down in a good blow, but she would haul ass if you treated her right, and got her balanced out. Hell, I guess she had too much sail, or we flew too much sail. Probably the latter.

Anyway, we took some girlie girls for a ride on occasion…they did not come back for more, none of ‘em. They said that (and we were) was fucking crazy, and couldn’t possibly believe anyone would want to do that. One of ‘em once, needed some stitches, and we were going to sew her up…and she flipped all the way out. I mean she really lost her shit…couldn’t stand the sight of her blood. Went absolutely ballistic on us. Hell, one of the crew was a MD, doing his internship at a local hospital in the emergency room…he knew how to clean and sew. Never saw her again. I think she was a tad bit traumatized, but she did go get some stitches at a hospital. It was just her hand.

I wouldn’t know, but I’ve been told that riding a sailboat in a good blow in like riding a wild ass bronco. I’ve never ridden a bull, but I’ve ridden some sailboats that made me want to talk to The Maker.

Born With An Ear

Desiree’ Bassett is 14 or 15 years old and amazing. I think she’s 19 now, no matter. It is said she has absolute pitch, or perfect pitch, which is the ability to name or reproduce a tone without reference to an external standard. No Shit! Search for her on YouTube, she can piss with the big dogs.

She says about the following video: “Just for fun, working on tone and stuff. A Celion Dion song.”

The sound is bad on this one, but it does illustrate how she can hold her own.

Missing

I’m gonna have to call in the Juju detectives and Juju inspectors. In the House of Juju I have some stuff missing. A pair of my favorite shoes, a nice Buck 5 or 6 inch folding knife (the titanium one is not missing) , my channel lock pliers, and some tweezers, and a pair of cheaters. I got a high-beam light out to search everywhere. No luck. They have vanished in the last couple of weeks. Very mysterious. I can pretty much tell you, it wasn’t Stretch. Stretch is not a stealer or hider. I swear to The Maker, it might be Aliens. There was not a physical break-in. I can not find my stuff. I never lose anything. Very strange, this is. I have looked everywhere. I leave my shoes in the same place everyday. I leave my knives in the same place all the time. Same goes for the tweezers. WITF would steal tweezers. I use ‘em to finish off knots.

Just plain damn strange is all I can say.

…is the Icelandic Horse. When the Juju Woman and I were in Iceland, these were our horses. Mine, with the white stripe, was named “The Dream”, hers was named “The Wanderer”. They’re damn near sure-footed. It’s snowing, sleeting, ice pelleting, blowing, and cold. They never missed a step, and we were traveling over some harsh terrain…ice fields, lava deserts,,,etc. These horses have a couple more gears (gaits) than other horses. They are known as the “five-gaited” breed. When you shift one into the “tölt”, the “ambling gait”, it is a great ride. Smooth, but fast. They’re different to ride, comfortable, but different. Shorter, longer haired, and thicker coated, you would be if you had to live in those conditions. The Icelandic horse has evolved over the years…since about the 9th century.

If you ever have the opportunity to take one for a ride, go for it…I highly recommend it.

A Commission From The Juju Woman

The Juju Woman made this kaleidoscope for an internet friend. Never met her face to face, and she inquired about one after she saw a picture I posted not long ago. It has an extra wheel, and the wheels are reversible, so it like having four in one. I didn’t post it until she received it, wanted it to be a surprise.

She said…“Love it, Love it, Love it!! It is so amazing to look through, so unexpected…This is like one big piece of candy.”

Now that, is a compliment, and we thank her for that.

When she builds any glass, if it’s not a total surprise, we only ask one question…What are your favorite colors? Helps with the glass selection, if you know what I mean. They are all one of a kind.

It’s about 10 inches wheel to tail.

State Of The Clowns

Did anyone watch the State Of The Clown speech the other night. What a fucking repetitive joke. Jokes are only (usually) good the first time you hear ‘em.

Anyway, here’s my buddy Sire, the Head Rib Cooker. He doesn’t light the grill until he’s had about eight beers or so, and that ain’t no joke. This guy is serious about his ribs. He doesn’t know his age, or where he was born, but he can damn sure cook. He also doesn’t know his “given” name. Interesting guy. He’s not “book smart”, but he’s wise in other ways. He was dropped off on a island when he was a baby. No formal education whatsoever, but a very smart guy. We became friends. He’s hard to understand, because his “language” is a combination of English, French, Dutch, and Spanish. When I can’t understand him, I go to sign. He has basically invented his own way of communicating. Hell, it works.

I snapped this while damn near drunk and staggering around with my friends a year or so ago. Just kidding about the staggering and drunk stuff, but it is one of nicest places I’ve been. Anguilla, BWI. Once there, it doesn’t take long to get into the groove. Fresh fish, homemade rum, cockfights…laid back. If I ever have to break for cover, you can find me there. Seriously, nice place. The latitude and climate is perfect. Never gets cold, never gets too hot.

The Surprise Slide

Recently, in my small town, we’ve had several home break-ins, home invasions, whatever you want to call ‘em. People are desperate. The bad guys and girls are kicking down doors, breaking and climbing in windows, while people are at home! Most, in broad fucking daylight. They don’t care. The don’t knock, they just crash in. This is happening in nice neighborhoods…the dirt-bags believe they’ll get more for the risk. Their Modus Operandi is to taser everyone inside, steal all their stuff, and make a clean getaway. Well, I guess the odds are better you could survive being tasered, as opposed to being shot, but still. What is this world coming to? I need to get in the habit of locking my doors and my cars, not that that would make a difference. Alarms and security companies don’t work…neither do signs. These people don’t care, they’re in and out way before the police arrive. If you depend on the police to protect you, you’re not very smart. Hell if I know, but I do know it is unlikely anyone could escape after a blast of 3 in. double ought buck. If that shit will go through doors and walls, it will go through you. I will blast anyone who breaks into my house. Of course, Stretch will give me enough warning to rack the surprise slide.

I know many anti-gun people, and I just don’t get it. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again…“better to have one and not need it, than to need one and not have it”. You never know what will happen, but when it happens, it happens fast. Just remember, you will not have enough time to unlock a gun safe and load a weapon. You’ll be dead by then. Just something to keep in mind.

Why are some people so anti-gun? I would really like to know. It makes no common sense to me. It’s like drinking water out of your cupped hands, when there is a glass at your elbow.
